Areas of Expertise
Criminal Law
I was a criminal proscutor for over 20 years, and I have worked in the Prince George's County State's Attorney's Office, the Charles County State's Attorney's Office, the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, and the United States Justice Department's Narcotic and Dangerous Drug Section. As a result, I know how the government puts cases together, and I know how to pull them apart. Whether you have received a Grand Jury supoena or a supoena to appear in a trial, or whether you have been charged with anything from Disorderly Conduct or Driving Under the Influence of drugs or alcohol (DUI) to complicated drug and murder conspiracies, I can help you navigate the justice system and get the best possible resolution for you.
Business Law
A great deal of my work involves supporting entrepreneurs by ensuring that their deals and transactions go smoothly. I support them in the creation, negotiation and the enforcement of their contracts and agreements. Anyone who is in business knows that most business transactions are "arms length" transactions, and anyone who is new to business will soon find out. This means that each party is acting in his or her own self interest, and is trying to get the best possible deal for their respective sides. I can help you to ensure that you get the deal that you want as well as the benefit of your bargain.
Victims' Rights
Sometimes you discover that you have been taken advantage of, often by people or businesses or the state or federal government----any entity with more perceived power. No one wants to think of themselves as a victim, but it can happen to any one of us despite our best efforts. Whether it be a dispute with an employer, a marriage that has come to an end, a situation involving the determination of child custody rights and responsibilities or a situation that leaves you on the short end of a governmental decision, we can discuss, analyze, and get to the bottom of it. You do not have to go it alone.
Litigation
Sometimes negotiation just doesn't work. In some situations it is simply not applicable. When that happens, I have no problem taking the case to the next level---the trial. Most of my experience as an attorney involves trial experience in the courtroom, and I have litigated cases in Maryland and the Disrict of Columbia in both state and federal court.
I have litigated employment discrimination, business, criminal and family law cases. I have litigated cases involving private parties as well as the state and federal government. The necessity of litigation is determined on a case by case basis. We can discuss what is right for you and your situation.
